March 2011

The conference was held in Manila, Philippines, March 15-16, 2011. It was co-organized by HCWH, WHO and the UNDP GEF Global Healthcare Waste Project.
Participants from ministries of health, health care institutions and health professionals from throughout Asia were invited to attend.

Philippines Health Care: Month-Long Series of Activities to Highlight Administrative Order 21 (AO21)

General Santos City – Health Care Without Harm, the World Health Organization and the Philippines Department of Health organized a month-long series of activities to highlight Administrative Order 21 (AO21) that mandates all Philippine Health Care Facilities and Institutions to phase-out mercury containing devices such as mercury thermometer and sphygmomanometer. South Asian Conference for the Elimination of Mercury in Health Care

The First South Asian Conference for the Elimination of Mercury in Health Care will be held in New Delhi, India on December 5-6.

Organized by the Indian-based Toxics Link and Health Care Without Harm, in Association with UNEP it features inspiring examples of health care systems switching to mercury-free health care.

Southern Africa Conference

The First Southern Africa Conference on Promoting Alternatives to Mercury on Health Care Sector was held in Johannesburg, organized by groundWork and Health Care Without Harm in association with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Latin American Conference

The first Latin American Conference on the Elimination of Mercury in Health Care was held in Buenos Aires. The event hosted 150 representatives from 16 countries. Doctors, nurses, hospital directors, government and United Nations officials, and non-governmental organizations, discussed the role that the health care sector plays in raising awareness of the dangers of mercury while cleaning up its own house by switching to mercury free devices.

South East Asia Conference

The South East Asia Conference on Mercury in Health Care was organized by Health Care Without Harm in association with UNEP and with the support of the Philippine Heart Center, Department of Health and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
